Friday March 4th, marked the Tower Project Jet’s service Job Information Day, whereby 16 companies attended to support the event. Students from three local schools (George Green’s, Bow/Phoenix & Langdon) attended the event which took place at our very own Ocean View Café, in a job fair/exhibition style layout.

The objective of the day was to give access to students to gain an insight to the working world by meeting employees of these various companies, in which the representative of each company in attendance had their own stand/table to talk about the various roles within their sector and what is needed in terms of skills, qualities, and qualifications.

As well as students learning about various job industries, it was clear to see, companies were also learning by having an insight in meeting young people who have a learning difficulty or a disability and searching for work.

A perfect example of this, was Ben’s feedback from the company Engie who said

I had a brilliant day thank you both, spending time with the kids was a real privilege, being taught to sign ‘Hello, my name is Ben’ was a particular highlight.  Hopefully our presence was seen as useful and positive as well but from a selfish point of view it was extremely rewarding!”

Seeing how employees reacted at event and seeing how students were engaged and interested to listen, was a true representation of the importance of events such as these, and the continuous positive work carried out by the TowerProject – JET Service.

A massive thank you for all the companies who took time out of their working day to attend, it is very much appreciated.
